EN 13758 UPF 40+: protection against harmful UV radiation

Work clothing with the EN13758 standard offers proven protection against both UVA and UVB radiation. Research shows that protection against this radiation significantly reduces the risk of skin damage. Fabrics that have been tested according to EN13758 protect against this radiation and ensure that you can work outside all day without any worries.

The degree of protection is indicated by the Ultraviolet Protection Factor (UPF). The higher the UPF, the more UV rays are blocked. This is insufficient for long-term work in the sun. Workwear with EN13758 standard, on the other hand, has a UPF of 40+, which means that more than 97.5% of UV radiation is blocked and therefore provides reliable protection during the entire working day. This makes it ideal for professionals who work long days outdoors, such as in construction, infrastructure, technology or landscaping.

What is the effect of UV radiation on your health?

UV radiation has a major effect on our health. Although sunlight is important for the production of vitamin D and regulating our biological clock, too much UV radiation can be harmful. It can burn the skin, which can happen after about 20 minutes in the sun. How quickly this happens depends on various factors, such as the strength of the sun, skin type and age. Repeated burning can lead to skin cancer in the long term, especially later in life. Although the skin can repair itself in many cases, this is not always completely possible; Frequent burning can permanently damage the skin. That is why it is important to protect yourself from UV radiation from a young age, especially when you spend a lot of time in the sun.

Some practical tips to protect yourself against UV radiation are:

  • Wear UV protective clothing: Choose work clothing that protects against UV radiation; clothing with the EN 13758 standard offers good protection for this.
  • Use sunscreen: Apply sunscreen regularly, especially when working in the sun for long periods of time.
  • Protect head, face and neck: Wear a hat or cap to protect these sensitive areas from direct sunlight.
  • Wear sunglasses: Choose sunglasses with UV protection to protect your eyes from harmful rays.

Also make sure you have enough water, take regular breaks and alternate between sun and shade

How is protection tested?

The substance is exposed in the laboratory to UV radiation that simulates sunlight. Only fabrics that transmit less than 2.5% of UV radiation may carry the EN 13758 label. This means that the clothing provides reliable protection against harmful UV radiation, so that the wearer can safely work in the sun for longer.

Maintenance

UV protection may decrease with frequent washing, stretching or use of aggressive cleaning agents. Therefore, always follow the manufacturer's maintenance instructions to maintain the protective properties for as long as possible. Please note:

  • Wash the clothing according to the indicated temperature instructions.
  • Avoid bleaches or aggressive detergents that can affect UV protection.
  • Dry the clothes naturally or according to the instructions; excessive heat can
  • reduce protection.
  • Check the condition of the fabric regularly; UV protection may decrease if there is wear or tear
